Ravensara oil is extracted from the leaves of the Ravensara tree, native to madagascar but also found in Mauritius and the island of Reunion.  The oil is obtained by a very long steam distillation process resulting in an almost colourless oil with an aroma that is similar to Rosemary oil.

Ravensara is a completely safe oil and can be used on anyone, including babies and has a multi action benefits, similar to Lavender essential oil.  It is above all anti- viral and particularly effective against flu and flu-like virus infections, especially if used at the first signs. Add a few drops in the bath just before going to bed will often avert an attack of flu and if that is not possible use Ravensara oil in a steam inhalation of massage.

Ravensara oil is active against some bacteria but the action is not as consitently successful as it is againt viruses. Useful for all respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis and catarrh.  Also useful on cold sores, shingles and genital herpes. 

Ravensara essential oil is also a muscle relaxant and good for joint pains and muscular tension.
